Cloud Computing to Double by 2012
(26th April 2010)
New research by TechMarketView predicts that the UK is set to spend over £1 billion on cloud computing by 2012 - twice as much as the current spend.
Cloud-based services currently account for around 7.5% of the £8 billion UK software market, but TechMarketView predicts this will increase to around £1.2 billion per year in the UK by 2012.
Philip Carnelley, senior analyst at TechMarketView said:
"In the old days, big companies used to generate their own electricity. But they do not do that anymore, software is going the same way - let others do the processing."
"This is not just analysts hyping things up, it is a genuine shift."
Cloud computing is a type of computing that allows users to subscribe to various service and IT solutions over the internet without the need to directly own and maintain the applications.
In addition users don't need to have detailed knowledge or expertise making it as easy solution for business to implement.
Other benefits include its dynamically scalability and lower costs as companies who switched to cloud services avoid capital expenditure on hardware, software and services paying only for the resources they use.
