US Government Adopting Cloud Computing

The US Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra has announced it will look to cloud computing to trim its $76 billion IT budget.

Cloud computing is a type of computing that allows users to subscribe to various service and IT solutions over the internet without the need to directly own or maintain the applications.

Users don’t need to have detailed knowledge or expertise making it easy for companies to implement. In addition the cloud computing services are dynamically scalable and offer the latest innovations at a very manageable cost.

Companies who switched to cloud computing services avoid capital expenditure on hardware, software and services paying only the resources they use.

The transition to cloud-based services is expected to take the US government up to ten years, with significant savings in both annual cost and power used.

This follows the UK Governments Digital Britain report, which earlier this year advised the government to move many of their current and future IT applications to a cloud computing model.
